30th Nov 2008Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre, Mk1 progress
56 is now very nearly done at the NTHC. The cab, smokebox door and chimmney have been fitted. The final motion parts are being fitted and the fittings are being added. 16168 is now finished and now wears a simple unlined maroon livery. Its place in the shed has been taken by 34249 which will be finished. Work on 4207 is still going well and 1410 was helping with the new platform.
23rd Nov 2008Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre, progress on 56
I went to the NTHC to do some more work on 56. Finally I have finished the brass fittings. I will do painting next week. There is also hoped to be several carriage bogie swaps soon. Two new bogies have arrived for the MK2 Buffet Car 1215 and one for the Mk2 maroon BSO 9389. 4207 will have the bogies from 13125 whose survive in much better nick. As well as 56 more welding was being done on 4207 and electrical work was being done on 9389 to prepare for the Santa Specials.
22nd Nov 2008Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre, big day for No. 56
Today was a big day at the NTHC. At last No. 56 has passed its final steam test! With some help from some other volunteers I cleaned 5 more parts. I also oiled up the saddle tank and some other people were painting the smokebox. Another piece of good news is that the overhauls of Brake Vans 357488 and 954353 have been started. 16168 and 4207 are also still making massive progress.

It was in use at the NTHC for two years before it was withdrawn in need of overhaul. It was stored for a further four years before its overhaul was started in October 2008. This gallery will be contiunously updated as the overhaul progresses.

Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre, 2008 end of season vehicle rally
A great way to end the main operating season was with the highly successful end of season vehicle rally. A wide range of visiting vehicles attended and the resident vehicles that starred outside at the rally were ARC 666T, ORC 545P, CUV 218C, PFN 865 and GSU 841 along with resident Land Rover Defenders D375 ASG and R649 JFE. D544 REM is currently away for a repaint. The next time the road transport vehicles will be out will be at next years Easter event. See www.nthc.co.uk for odd events happening this year. Enjoy the pics!
